For over a decade, Dennis Silvers has been the voice of golf
in Southern Nevada.
Known as "The Golf Guru of Las Vegas," Dennis has been the
host/producer of "The 19th Hole," "Let's Tee It Up" and "The Golf Minute" broadcast
on ESPN Radio and Fox Sports Radio 920 AM in Las Vegas. These programs have been described
as "a way of life" for the local golfing community.
Moving to Las Vegas from Southern California in 1991, Dennis
became very active in golf activities in Southern Nevada. Having been invited
to become a member of the Las Vegas Founders, Dennis became involved in helping
to promote and run the Las Vegas Invitational on the PGA Tour and did local color
commentary for the PGA Tour Radio Network. Dennis has been active in the Southern
Nevada Junior Golf Association as well and served as their liaison between the
association and the media.
Dennis has also become known as the unofficial voice of the
University of Nevada Las Vegas golf teams, and was selected to be on the first
screening and hiring committee that brought the first women's head golf coach
to the University.
In 2001, Dennis produced and hosted the very first televised
golf program in the history of the state of Nevada. "The 19th Hole" was an hour-long
program that won the Broadcasters Award for "best of its kind" on local cable
television. Dennis is also the host of "The Golf Minute" which airs on News 3 on the CW Las Vegas. "The Golf Minute" showcases local golf professionals and celebrities giving tips on their favorite part of the game of golf.
Dennis has been recognized by various organizations for his
continued contributions in promoting golf in Southern Nevada and is regularly
invited to be the Master of Ceremonies at various golf-related functions, such
as for Junior Golf, UNLV golf fundraisers and the Las Vegas chapter of the PGA.
Dennis attended Los Angeles City College and the University
of California at Los Angeles and was a member of the golf team. Dennis has won
various amateur tournaments as well as many club events in which he was a member
and today carries a single-digit handicap.
